What's your reason to work from home? follow this discussion

    started 20 days ago by

I started to work from home (well, most of the times, except when going for meetings) this year. It's been rewarding and meaningful for my relationship with my kids.

However, sometimes I'm pondering, is it the right move? will I be more productive if I regularly work in my office and around the people who work for and with me?

I just want to know, how about you? What's your main reason to choose to work from home?

      Tips here.

My reasons for working at home are legion, I've been doing it since 1990 - and held three different telework jobs since then (including my present position).

I guess the main reason is that I don't have to play "freeway roulette" or drive anywhere every day. My ideal would be to have an office within an hour drive to go in once a week for a meeting or birthday party... but that's never been the case.

      Thanks.

I was saying that because i am running a 2nd business with my partners with explicit condition in advance that i will be a work-from-home partner.

Work from home has given a new style altogether like working in PJ and such. I guess I'm only lacking on discipline and focus to get most of it.

Reason for me for asking, I knew it's a matter of preference, some people have the choice and choose to work from home. Some others, even if they want to choose to work from office, the nature of the work requires them to work from home due to e.g., cost saving. Like I said, I'm a newbie in work from home :-)

To answer more, I need to know more.

A second business?  Your other "business" - is that a job or a business you own?

The biggest challenge for most people, as I found out (surprisingly) in an earlier discussion in this group on this subject, in working from home is the challenge of being "alone" and disciplining their actions w/out a coterie around them.

Why do you ponder if it's the right move?  Just thinkin...

Me?  I work from home cause that's the only place I have to work these days but, if I had to choose, I'd work from home.  Why?  I'm self-employed and why go to all the expense an outside office entails?  Did that - wouldn't do it again.  Keeping expenses within my "control" suits me just fine and allows me to work more productively.

Here's a question backatcha.  You indicate you have an office with people who work for and with you.  What do you mean?  That would impact my answer.  That's what I meant when I said I've done all that.  I guess what I'm saying is I wouldn't have people who work for and with me again that required an office signature.
