Are you prepared for the next down leg of the recession/depression?

      Hi Kyle,

Endorsement, criticism or even sarcasm. I welcome it all. At least what I posted intrigued someone enough to read it, and enlivened someone enough to generate a response. To answer your question, yes I am prepared for good times or bad. Both professionally and personally. I am fortunate. If there is one gift that challenging times offers us, it is enlightenment. A realization that there is nothing, nothing that cannot be taken away. Permanence and security are illusions. I learned this years ago on a whole other level that I will not go into here.

John Burroughs wrote: "The lesson which life repeats and constantly enforces is ‘look under foot.' You are always nearer the divine and the true sources of your power than you think. The lure of the distant and the difficult is deceptive. The great opportunity is where you are. Do not despise your own place and hour. Every place is under the stars, every place is the center of the world."

I provided this group with information about joining Fran Goldstein for a discussion on preparing their teams and companies for the rebound. Fran is a woman who I believe is a rock star motivator, an excellent trainer, and someone with a lot of street cred. A bunch of people thought it worthwhile to participate, and based on the comments I heard, got great stuff out of it.

The Stockdale Paradox is something I live by and something I've shared here before. I believe the people who attended Fran's session also "get it." It is this:

"You must retain faith that you can prevail to greatness in the end, while retaining the discipline to confront the brutal facts of your current reality."

I wish you success in your endeavors. And should economic conditions decline further as you suggested, then perhaps the Italian proverb says it best:

"Since the house is on fire, let us warm ourselves."

      Regards,

      Amy
