Tuesday's Question of the Day (7/8)...blogging follow this discussion

    started 16 months ago by

Will blogs be the new resume in the next few years? In an age where input, control and interactivity are a priority for many individuals, blogs represent the unedited version of yourself. What are the positives and negatives with using blogs to replace or support resumes?

I wrote a post once called "Sales 101 for Staffing" on Recruitingblogs.com. I had actually written the article for my blog but someone had Googled ??sales training for staffing?? and came up with my article. He then asked me to be a sales trainer for his sales people. I told him I was just a humble recruiter, but gave him a couple of leads as to who could really help him.

If you have good content in your blog there is a chance someone will find you that otherwise would have missed you. It??s also a good place to share and give back to the community the knowledge that you attained, the mistakes you made, and the little triumphs you achieved.

Blogs are an extension of the resume, almost like a reference, but I doubt they will be a replacement. Niche blogs will demonstrate the authors knowledge and expertise (or lack there of) and help the hiring employer form a more rounded impression.

Just yesterday I was speaking with Ralph Steeber at medicalreps.com about the possibility of video resumes replacing traditional ones. It would be interesting to know opinions about that too.

Yes, if you blog consistently, you will get people talking to you because they have an interest.

It depends on how you blog and what you blog about. Sincerity, honesty and transparency are where it's at, but not everyone is wired to blog like that.
