Yesterday's MagicMethod Telephone Names Sourcing Class took an unexpected turn when a phone sourcer from Japan showed up prior to class (before going to bed in Japan in the middle of the night!) and proceeded to regale us with some sourcing stories from the land of the Rising Sun. We had our usual class afterwards but the early input is interesting. I hope you find it so.

Japan Names Sourcer: name sourcing - gathering - i get a list of companies and titles - I do have one twist and that is i have to make sure they speak english 10:11 AM

Japan Names Sourcer: Unlike what I hear you do I usually make up a story to go into the company 10:12 AM

Japan Names Sourcer: My name is xyz. Can I speak to the sales manager for cutting tools... 10:14 AM
Japan Names Sourcer: I get that person on the line and I ask about their product and contact info in case I have more questions 10:15 AM
MaureenSharib: and that is the person you're after? 10:18 AM
MaureenSharib: or are you after others? 10:19 AM
Japan Names Sourcer: usually the person i'm after 10:19 AM
Japan Names Sourcer: if not i want the info of the person i'm after 10:19 AM
MaureenSharib: What is it like approaching gatekeepers in Japan? 10:20 AM
MaureenSharib: So when you ask the GK for the sales manager for cutting tools they just willingly pass you through to that person? 10:20 AM
Japan Names Sourcer: Sales manager are usually pretty easy 10:21 AM
MaureenSharib: From what you heard on our radio shows how is phone sourcing in the US different from phone sourcing in Japan? 10:21 AM
Japan Names Sourcer: i mean they speak to new customers all the time and they are a manager so people know exactly who to connect to 10:21 AM
Japan Names Sourcer: the GK are a lot tougher 10:24 AM
