"Notice what I'm doing here. I'm diverting her what-I- sense is half harried attention. It's morning bell and things are many times rushed at this hour. My small talk is helping to engage her.  I'm giving her just enough information to validate my presence."   ~ Maureen, Telephone Names Sourcer

“The world is not interested in the storms you encountered. Did you bring the ship in?”

I received the following quote in an email offering negotiation and persuasion training from Mumbai recently and it struck me.

"The world is not interested in the storms you encountered. Did you bring the ship in?"

How many times has someone told you how difficult something is? Don't tell me how hard it is - I know it's hard! If it was easy everyone would be doing it!

MagicMethod News

There's new and interesting content at the MagicMethod site about sourcing. I'm hangin' out in there too all morning so if there's anything you want to ask me about stop by and catch up with me in Chat at the top in the middle of the main page!

Today, at noon, EST I'll be calling in to listen and talk on the RecruitingAnimal show at 646 652 2754.
He's going to be talking about splits and I have a feeling it's going to get interesting. There's some blood on the carpet lately about this issue and hopefully it'll get discussed (w/out naming names but if names get named it's okay with me).

Check out the post on the MagicMethod site about the "Sixth Sense". The concept will blow you away. It's in the Blogs section.

TOMORROW on TalkSourcing

Still don't know what names sourcing is?
Still haven't heard how it can save 75% PLUS on your staffing budgets?
Do you get the fact that there are sourcers sniffing around inside your own company, finding people (that you fought hard to find!) to fill the hard-to-fill positions of other recruiters and you're losing employees because of a competitive advantage you don't understand?

Get smart on the TalkSourcing show on Thursday, Novemenr 12 w/ Master Internet Sourcer Geoff Webb and Mistress Phone Sourcer Maureen Sharib at noon EST in the only-of-its-kind radio show about names sourcing on the planet! Call in and ask your questions and listen to the answers to the questions of others.

Tune in at www.talksourcing.com at noon, EST or call 347-850-1815 to listen and talk!

Yesterday's MagicMethod Phone Sourcing Class Log is up

Yesterday's Phone Sourcing Class Log is up - here.

It was a good class on basics and we had a lot of fun!  When you get time read through the log - I'm sure you'll learn something!

"After 'Norwegian Wood', I met Ravi Shankar at a friend's house in London, for dinner. He offered to give me instructions in the basics of the sitar, like how to sit, how to hold it, and the basic exercises. It was the first time I had ever really learned these sort of things." ~ George Harrison  (Musician, producer and composer, member of The Beatles, 1943-2001)

Thinking about selling your recruiting/sourcing business?

I wrote an article about this a coupl'a years back on Fordyce and you can read it here.
If you ARE thinking about selling, consider appearing as a Guest Seller on BlogTalkRadio's new "SellYourOwnBusiness" radio show on the last Thursday of every month! The first show is scheduled for October 29, 2009 and the half-hour event will be at 12:30 pm EST following Glenn Gutmacher's noon EST interview.

Glenn Gutmacher created one of the world's first 100% web-based e-sourcing courses in 1997, which continues today as Recruiting-Online.com. He started in this space by founding greater Boston's first regional career site, JobSmart, in 1996 for a major newspaper chain's portal, TownOnline.com. Today, as Vice President of Arbita ACES (Arbita Consulting and Educational Services, formerly JobMachine), Glenn is in charge of their Recruitment Development services including the creation of content, development of new curriculum and products, and conducting online events. Glenn is an often-requested speaker on Internet sourcing topics at leading recruiting conferences and associations and he's agreed to come on our show and we're very excited!

So, if you're thinking about selling your recruiting business, or you have sold a recruiting business and would be so kind as to enlighten us on the do's and don't's of the event, consider appearing on BlogTalkRadio's only show that allows sellers to showcase their business! Contact maureen at techtrak.com for scheduling.

How To Be Found

I just got my hands on a pre-release of Barbara Ling's "Be Found As A Recruiter" book. It teaches you how to get your site on the front page of Google for search results for your local career niche. Do a search on "Internet Recruiter Training" - Barbara comes up as #1! This girl KNOWS what she's talkin' about. Watch for details!
Misspell it like I did the first time around - Internet Recruiter Treaining and she still comes up as #1!

Financial Cost of Mike Fright

Two weeks ago, one of the sourcers in my group (when I have extra work I put it out to a select few who have volunteered to do sourcing/profiling jobs) volunteered to do a job - not really a difficult job - it entailed finding sales reps for one of the medical software companies. The search was nationwide - Hallelujah! - and the customer wanted 100 names. There were a dozen or so companies on the list with probably 200 sales offices represented. A very wide target field, indeed! It's time-consuming but not particularly hard for a skilled sourcer. This particular sourcer was crying a river that they needed the money and did I have anything they could work on? Yadda yadda yadda later, I send the job to the sourer. Two days pass...

MagicMethod News

Hello and for those of you who missed Geoff Webb, Master Sourcer's Sourcerography interview after the Recruiting Animal's show on Wednesday you can hear it at the MagicMethod site (check the TalkSourcing audio box in the left-hand column).

Tuesday's noon Phone Sourcing Class devolved into the telling of "ruses we have heard about" and "ruses we have used" all at the naughty urging of the Recruiting Animal so blame him for the resurrection of this topic in this coming Tuesday's MagicMethod Phone Sourcing class on Aug 25.  Bring your stories to class at noon EST  - it'll be way fun!

By the way, the T, Aug 18 class log that includes some ruse confessions is posted here.

Animal: "So no one else here uses a ruse? Pizza calls. Etc"
Animal: "What about I met this girl last night and she left her underthings in my car - I know she works here in HR but I can't recall her name."
Animal: "OK, I'm ready to learn. Let's go!"

The new content at the MagicMethod site includes:

Hey!  Want to bid on a ready-made social networking group/site that you can step into and take to the "next level"?  It's an interesting concept and I'm anxious to see what happens on the innovative eBay auction of "HRM Today" starting on Wednesday, August 5.  The bidding starts at $0 and will last ten days and includes http://hrmtoday.com, http://blogs.hrmtoday.com, and http://network.hrmtoday.com, along with archived user data. There will be no reserve.

Laurie Ruettimann and her partner Lance Haun started the site last year - it has 1,200 members along with a LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter presence that includes over 1,700 followers.

Good luck Lance and Laurie!

MagicMethod Class Log and Animal Show Alert

Animal had some unique approaches to Gatekeepers in Tuesday's MagicMethod Telephone Names Sourcing class:

"I'm looking for some money for the subway." That would confuse her and then when her defenses were down I'd pounce back into the real conversation. She wouldn't know if she were coming or going. Very vulnerable to be bossed around."

Is it okay if I call her Hon?

Maureen isn't it good to confuse them? "Hey, aren't you a pretty little thing?" Then she's looking over her shoulder. "What's he talking about?" Her attention is distracted and her defenses have dropped.

It was a good class - read Animal's shenanigans and more here.

And for those of you who want more, more, more, as Billy Idol said, tune in to Animal today at noon EST on the Recruiting Animal Radio Show. I'll be there at 1 if you want to TalkSourcing! www.recruitingshow.com Call in to talk: 646 652 2754

MagicMethod Class TODAY More discussion on names.

What power does a name hold?  Any at all?  Are they conclusive evidence of anything?  Or are they clues we can follow when we're seeking information?

What does your name say to you about yourself? What do you think it says to others? What language do the names of others speak to you?  We'll be talking some about this in today's MagicMethod Phone Sourcing class at noon EST. Join us.

Before class, read this MagicMethod post and follow some (or all) of the links for more information.  Bring your thoughts to class.

What's in a name?

I saw a post a short time ago asking about what's in a name?  It got me to thinking.

What's IN a name anyway?

Some names hold clues within them that can lead you to names of others you seek.  If I was looking for a circuit design engineer I'd go first at a name like Chin Shen Yu before I went at Sally Mathers.  Learn why today in the MagicMethod Telephone Sourcing class at noon EST here.
