Layoff script

Hello All,

I am new into HR and one of my first tasks will be to layoff a group of employees (great way to break me in right). The layoff is across the company and I want to have one consistent message that managers will deliver.

Can anyone provide a script with which I can work with?

Thanks,

Employee Referral Bonus Question

Our current employee referral bonus program awards the employee $500 when they refer and we hire an employee. Currently we make the referring employee wait until their referral has completed the first 90 days of employment. Do most companies make the referring employee wait or award them as soon as the employee starts? Also would be interested to hear any thoughts on what other companies do for their Employee Referral Bonus Program.

9 Areas of Change in How Companies Interact with People

I wonder if the group agrees with this research and if so would comment on how their company rates on these changes which are not in rank order. For your benchmark, when I was at P&G (1994-2001) many of these changes had already taken place. It is true that large to medium-sized companies probabaly will have more success in accomodating some of the changes for career development because they offer more choice. I wonder what small/start-up companies will do?

Nine Areas of Changes in How Companies Interact With People Human Capital Institute webinar Oct 8 2008 Presented by Steven T. Hunt, PhD SPHR of Success Factors

1.) HR will become more strategic in Talent Management rather than administrative 2.) Succession Planning will be ongoing and people-centric rather than process driven 3.) Career development will be integrated into work 4.) Career exploration could have a non-linear career path where people will be able to transfer horizontally into a different job within the company that transfers their skills. 5.) Labor shortage is really a skills shortage. Skills are ??what you know?? versus competencies of ??how you use or apply skills??. A person needs a balance of each but hard skills are in short supply and will continue to be so. 6.) Companies will leverage people at all productive phases of their career growth so that the job changes with career maturity. 7.) Workforce analytics or using data to guide workforce decisions will evolve and be applied continually. Data collection and its analysis is still being worked out. 8.) There will be an increase in litigation around unfair evaluations, promotions and pay because processes around these are poor, nonsystematic and not standardized throughout the company. 9.) Talent management technologies will move beyond automation to transformation which is harder to implement. The technology will be used to change the way people decide on talent management and its alignment with business strategies.

Q&A: What is the single most important thing a company can do right now? Put a process in place to promote dialogue between employees. Also if a company heavily relies on skills management make sure succession planning is in place and the identity of critical skills is known. How does one handle a virtual organization? The company needs communities or affinity groups to help bridge the virtual gap. These communities need HR support and can also help with knowledge management. How can we handle nepotism ??it??s so unfair? Some people don??t see it unfair to have their son/daughter take over a company but it needs communication within the company and transparency. Risk is low retention which will be lethal in a tight labor market. Technology can show performance reasons for not using nepotism.

HR Director w/Management Information Focus

I am facing a challenge to find a 2VP HR Project Head w/focus on Management Information (MI) and analytics such as tracking turnover/progression/pay for top/bottom 10%, employee demographics, and exit interview data. This position is based in Hartford, Connecticut and the ideal candidate would have experience in HR for an insurance company. Does anyone know of any professional organizations or other sources for candidates with this specific background?

AZ: Seeking a Senior Level Recruiting Opportunity

Dear Group,

I am actively seeking a senior level recruiting role in the Phoenix area. I am hoping someone within the group would be willing to share potential networking leads or to refer my information along to your colleagues/co-workers.

Though I do have several years of management experience (both staff and process management), I am willing and able to be a hands-on contributor. Please contact me if you would like to discuss my background further or if I can send to you a copy of my resume.

Thank you for any help in advance!

Sincerely, Larry Eisenstat 917-364-9437 larry.eisenstat@gmail.com

3rd party to corporate

Hello everyone, I need some help/advice/tips/opinions... I have been a 3rd party recruiter for 9 years and I would like to transition to a corporate role. I am finding it quite difficult on a few different fronts- my only recruiting experience is with this agency, dealing explicitly with the pharmaceutical industry and the few phone interviews that I've had are with non-pharma companies and they don't believe I could recruit in a different industry. Plus, since I don't have any corporate experience, I am getting stuck in that old catch 22 scenario. I have been very successful to this point- what can I do to convince everyone else that I can make the transition? That is if I even get past the resume submission. I would welcome any tough love responses and/or advice on what I can do.... if anything. Thank you all in advance for your honest opinions.
