Last week I noticed someone on the boards say they were anxious for competitors to LinkedIn to arise - I think that's happening. Anyone know who they are? ******

Thanks for that list of LinkedIn competitors. I know very few of them and if I'm the average recruiter, it appears that Linkedin's population far exceeds (from a business standpoint) the others. Yes, I have a profile on both MySpace and Facebook. I have used a few of the others but with limited (if any) success and quite a bit of confusion. Just my .02

There is also:
bigsite.org

Brightfuse.com

Connie, First I created a Profile on each on of the sites on the list, that's right all 43 sites. I also made sure to use 43 different User Names and Passwords just to make sure I was on top of my game. And I didn't write any of them down!!! Then I sent all my Linkedin connections invites from each of these services, just to make sure I'm connected to all the same people 43 different ways.
Obviously, I'm being facetious.
I have profiles on Linkedin, Myspace and Facebook oh and Plaxo pulse and Hoover's Connect. I refuse to connect to the same people over and over and over. I have not seen the benefit of doing this yet. Maybe someone will enlighten me on the error of my ways but as of now I'm not joining any more social networks!
I rarely if ever use Plaxo or Hoover's Connect and have never found a candiate off either one. Nor have I really looked. Facebook and Myspace we use very minimally and have pulled a handfull of candidates. Linkedin we use all the time and I'm a big advocate but question whether everyone really needs to build a huge network (to find candidates) when one can access all profiles by using a well defined Advanced Google Search string.
All others have so few users (less than 1 million in most cases) it will take years for them to catch up and I haven't seen any signicant changes in added features as a draw. If you think about it the best feature of linkedin is the full "profile" which can also be intepreted as a Mini resume. Resumes are what feed the staffing business so it's only natural that recruiters would gravitate twords Linkedin. I don't see other sites doing it as well as LI right now...but I also haven't reviewed sites in several months so things may have changed...
So in short pick one or two to supplement your research and still keep your bread and butter phone stuff going strong cause LI is good but it's not the full bag of chips yet.

These can really eat minutes! How do you use them? What is the most effective way to use each or any?

Here is a partial List I've been collecting. If you know of any others email me and I'll add them to the list. jweidner@htcresearch.com
Right now I think the forerunners are Konnects HooversConnects Plaxo
Hoovers and Plaxo already had a huge base or users and Konnects has shown to be marketing very aggresively.
