ATS & MFG Candidates follow this discussion

    started 2 months ago by

We have an ATS system we recently put in place but getting some pushback from managers in our Manufactuing area to utilize the tool (80% of workforce are manufactuing labored employees) . The ATS system we have is a paperless application process so potential workers will no longer be able to fill out paper applications.  Managers are affraid that their candidate pool will drop becuase they will not have access to a computer or will tend not to complete an on-line application due to difficulty in using a computer. Can anyone please respond on simular difficulties and how they were resolved?

Might I suggest a kiosk type of system so they can come in and apply without having to own a computer? Think of what Target has in each of their stores...

You might even partner with the library and unemployment offices in your area to allow access via their systems.

      Thanks Stephanie...

The plan was to install kiosks.. I believe any new process or system is culture shock in any organization. After 2nd meeting mngrs were more receptive.. I think they just needed assurance that we (HR) will be available to support and that it will be "work in progress".

Liza, please do not hear disrespect in what I write.

      They may be right.

These are opinions that follow; they may or may not apply to the specific situation of your organization.

      The organization may have goofed.

Online applications for blue collar and no collar jobs often betray unintentional classism-- that is the belief that everyone can afford access to the same technology that we possess.

As your managers are telling you, their population can't and they and the organization may be most affected by it. After all, they still have to produce and perform but may not have access to the same talent pool.

Consider a work around-- a place where people can come to your office and have assistance to applying online or resume submissions in the old manner but manually inputted (obviously not ideal). Monitor submissions for the point where more are being submitted online vs. other means.

Give them something instead of top down telling them its your way or else.

      Good luck.

      Hi Jeff..

Thank you so much for your reply. Not that they are wrong in their thoughts just looking for solutions to support them. We understand that this is change, and have begun the process of support such asĀ install of kiosks & on site training per location. We have OFCCP compliances to consider, but realize it will still be a work in progress.
