How are you handling "We are not hiring" at career fairs this fall? follow this discussion

Like many of you, I am planning on being at my core schools this fall - but with very few, if any, openings.

How are you handling this when speaking to students? What do you think is appropriate, honest, helpful while still presenting a positive image of your company?

      Catherine:

I know that this can be a tough position to be in, both as a hiring manager as well as a host of athlete career fairs nationally, this has been somewhat of a core issue this fall.

I think my response would be, even though you may not be hiring, you are always recruiting and this goes much further than your current openings.

Having a positive representation of your company to students is so important for the branding and future opportunities your company can have at your core schools.

As you know, these students talk with one another and at the end of the day they will walk away with a good impression or bad one from the visit they have at your booth.

I believe that being honest is crucial in presenting a positive image of your company and providing quality information for the students at your core schools will not only add value to their search, but will also add validity to your company's position in the market.

Stay positive and give good information, while also letting them know that although currently you may not have an opening for them, you want them to remain in contact because you never know what the future holds!
