I'm curious - what does the group think are important characteristics of a good researcher? Following are some questions that came to my mind -if you have others - post them!
What is a good researcher's habits in general?
What do you do everyday in the performance of your research?
What ONE THING could you not do without? What ONE THING could you do without?
What motivates a good researcher?
Does anyone make a difference between research and names sourcing?
What ONE THING is most important in the job order when you receive it? What ONE THING is least important in the job order when you receive it?
How many passive candidates do you think need to be sourced to create one hire (in general - your experience)?
Answer one, some or all! Thanx!

Best Characteristics in a Researcher:
An analytical mind Desire to see a project to completion Willingness to pursue every lead Organizational skills are paramount
One thing that I could NOT do without: A database that is robust enough to organize and track my research (I use Deskflow)
One thing that I could do without: Extraneous resources that charge for membership but are only used in highly targeted searches (eg. BigDough)
Typical number of passive candidates needed for one search: 250 (Executive Level) Of these, our recruiters usually present 5 to the hiring managers.
Requisite skills for a successful researcher: 1. Knowledge of Boolean Logic for search strings 2. Ability to Flip and X-Ray websites when needed 3. Robust list of resources to pull from for each project need (eg. Eliyon, BigDough, Hoovers, Lexis-Nexis, etc.)
