Not only do social media companies move at internet speed, but they also move quickly to adopt social media recruitment strategies.  Ning, the let you create your own social network company, has added video to profile employees in a montage.   Ning needs to differentiate from Facebook and others and there recruitment provides a glimpse to what people do there.

We all seen recruitment video from internet companies like google, salesforce, Facebook, yahoo, etc..  Here's Ning's.

    Ernest:

As you allude, this video is a little 'talk talk' and would benefit from some more visual appeal. However, I believe that technical audience they are looking to attract appreciate the level of information about the development philosophy, what team members are actually creating, the daily interaction with Ning users, etc.

Adding more workplace visuals, showing those "interesting, talented and fascinating people" interacting would certainly make sure the video engaged the viewer at both an intellectual ("I want to do what they do.") and emotional ("I want to be a part of this team.") level. This would create an experience with wider audience appeal and effectiveness.

I should add that the Ning video seems a little scripted (thus a little unauthentic) and could be improved if they actually showed their people in their work environment.  Talking heads can be a little boring.  Show candidates your office, it does matter if it's not glamorous, showing the workplace provides a better glimpse into the job and company.

Here's two videos showing the workplace video, better right:
