I heard it from several attendees at #SocialRecruiting summit - "I'm hoping to build a case to bring back to my company." That is the mantra of an employee playing it safe. One of the speakers, Fred Wilson, a venture capital investor in twitter, indeed.com, meetup.com and others, suggested going rogue. He did state that you need to be mindful of laws and other legal compliance issues.
Some people are early adopters and others are not. Why are some people and companies early adopters and other not? I think risk tolerance is a big reason. People that are ...

"How much for a recruitment video?"
Recruiting Has to Go Video, right. Video, combined with the Internet, is a game-changer for recruiting, right, as Kevin Wheeler has stated recently.
But I still hear it all the time - "How much for a video?," "It too expensive?" In ADOTAS I came across an article that is retweeted below. This article answers the cost question very well, but the answer is it depends. Read the article to see why. When thinking strategically about your talent acquisition, a more important question is - "what will my ROI be." I know HR "isn't" traditionally know to be good with numbers/math ...

The Great Recession is Almost Over!
The Great Recession is in the ninth inning and the home team is up by one run. As long as the other team doesn't ties it up, the recession is over. As you can see, I am cautiously optimistic. We have come a long way from the market panic in the fall on '08 and March '09 lows. The "green shoots" we started to see in Q2 and Q3 have led to stock market rebound of almost 55%. The stock market usually moves six months ahead of the real market.
The Conference Board said recently that its index of ...

Bank of America welcomes visitors/candidates with a video host on its career site. This adds engagement and personalizes the experience.

The video auto plays the first time you go to the career site and remebers you to not auto play again next time you visit the site, a nice feature. You can replay the video by clicking Replay video host, although you do not have mute, pause, stop or other controls. The welcome is also available in a transcript, nice touch in the spirit of the ADA. One minor or odd thing, the video host looks like she's ...

75 Turn out to NYC Recruiting & HR Network August Meetup
75 talent acquisition gurus turned out to discuss best practices in recruitment, in particularly, how to effectively use business networking at the NYC Recruiting & HR Network Meetup. The Meetup.com group is adding about 50 new members per month.
The group beleives in face-to-face meetups to learn from each other, network/socialize, and have a little fun. At this Meetup people discussed how to become a better Talent Acquisition guru (for yourself). Tiger Woods can use a coach, so can recruiters. Even recruiters and HR candidates make mistakes with ineffective "elevator speeches," ineffective networking mistakes candidates make "moving " through the ...

Is Twitter (and Linkedin) becoming a Job Qualification?
In the past I've wondered what the value of the size of your network on LinkedIn and Twitter is with regards to hiring (Here on ERE, you can have followers too). Today, I learned in a MediaPost article, Is Twitter A Job Qualification #FAIL? (R/T below), that a Best Buy job description preferred job qualifications of a graduate degree and 250+ Twitter followers.
Companies want to sell a product or services, right? Companies need to market or advertise their products or service, right? All other things being equal, would you rather hire a bunch of employees that are ...

there's about 10 different kinds of recruitment videos. One of them is a humorous videos demonstrating that your firm is a fun place.
You'll be speechless. Who at E&Y actually sign off on this ? This E&Y vid does show a humorous side, but most of the people in the video don't really seem like they are into this "We are the world" video. This video is from 2001, but still, was that the kind of "fun" they had on a normal basis?

Federal Bureau of Prisons Gets it, kind of.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP)hires for many positions; Doctors, Correctional Officers, Chaplains, Shipping and Receiving, Accountants, Teachers, Recreation Specialists, Secretaries, Food Service Supervisors and Facilities/Maintenance staff to name just a few.
To give candidates a glimpse into those careers and life at the BOP they have created several videos.
An improvement would be to do a better job of optimizing and distributing the videos. Once optimized and distributed candidates will easily find the videos on Yahoo, Google, Blinkx.com, Metacafe, Veoh and other sites.
Here's their current videos:

Video Resumes: Good or Bad Idea? Debate Continues On
I came across the following articles about Video Resumes. It certainly know it works if your job is TV related (AKA a reel), it can work for people if your job requires public speaking too. It??ll work if you are an athlete (video with highlights). Last time I check there are very few agents and sports talent scout/recruits on ERE.

Video resumes work, when they are...
CareerBuilder Ends Video Resume Experiment, but that doesn't mean video resumes don't work. Video resumes DO work they are called "reels"!! Here's a sample one at http://www.ralphieaversa.com/
If your job requires you to be on "air" or speak publicly then a "video resume/reel" will work today. In the "future" candidate generated video resumes might work too. I tried user-generated video resumes in 2000 when I was at JobRiot and the video did not work then. Now, 8 years later there is more take in HR, but more need to be acheived, who will ...
