Eight Random Facts about Me follow this blog post

Amybeth Hale tagged me over on her blog, asking me to reveal 8 random facts about myself. I wonder why anyone would want to know these things but I'm up for the challenge of finding 8 random facts that you could possibly find interesting.

The Rules:

1) Post these rules before you give your facts.

2) List 8 random facts about yourself.

3) At the end of your post, choose (tag) 8 people and list their names (linking to them)

4) Leave them a comment on their blog letting them know they've been tagged!

Eight Random Facts about Simon:

1)     I love single malted Scotch whisky. Lagavulin is my favorite.

2)     When I was a kid I was very active in the Boy Scouts in my native Australia.

3)     I started a Chemical Engineering degree at UNSW right out of high school because my two buddies said it was the best thing to do. It turned out that it wasn't. I switched to a degree in Science majoring in physical geography.

4)     I love to play golf but we actually have a champion golfer in the family. My 14 year old son just placed second in his division of the Callaway Golf Junior World Golf Championships.

5)     I got into recruitment by accident! When I sold my hardware and software distribution company in '95, I contacted a recruiter I knew at then Source Services Corporation to find my next career. I thought she would help me find a job. She did...working for Source!

6)     So how did I know the recruiter mentioned in 5) above? We'll she used to source candidates through me because of my connections to the Pick industry. We laughed long and hard a few months later when I revealed that I used to charge the consultants I referred to her a referral fee when she placed them.

7)     One of the reasons I excel in corporate recruitment is my exceptional organization and time management. I like to think of those skills as exceptional. Those who know me would probably use the word obsessive! I'm a neat freak and live by the motto: If it's worth doing once it's worth doing properly.

8)     I blog because I love to write and want to give back to the recruitment community. Finding new opportunities and developing my personal brand are secondary and were not even considerations when I started SittingXlegged. It sure worked out well though.

Now the difficult part: who to tag?

1)     Tom Dilatush at JamulBlog. This blog has nothing to do with recruitment but it's always interesting, often thought provoking, and usually funny.

2)     Shally Steckerl at CyberSleuthing! Shally hasn't been getting much press lately so I thought I'd help him out.

3)     Lisa Rosendahl at HR Thoughts. Lisa brings real world HR problems out in the open in a refreshing way.

4)     Jason Davis a.k.a. Slouch at RecruitingBlogs.com. Jason continues to innovate. It's always good to see where he's headed.

5)     Tracy Plowy at RecruiterSpace San Diego. Excellent San Diego based third party recruiter who is just getting into Recruitment 2.0.

6)     Evil HR Lady. What more can I say?

7)     Ken Schmitt at RecruiterSpace San Diego. Experienced and talented San Diego based third party recruiter.

8)     Todd Raphael at Todd Raphael's World of Talent. Todd is a pleasure to work with at ere.net. He writes and edits well and often blogs on topics I would never see otherwise.

So there you have it. 8 useless facts about me and 8 links to people you should know.
