Another Recruiters Day Ruined! follow this blog post

Few days back, I had a very urgent opening for the position of Team Leader. As usual, I went around posting my Jobs on Jobsites. And the response was huge. Around 100 applications chocked my inbox. I went through every resume & found 10 profiles suitable for the requirement. I decided to shortlist the best 5.

All the ten were actually good. Eventually I short listed the better 5 among them.

And sent interview calls to the candidates.

One person told he was not able to make it. I received confirmation from others. Well, surely for the kind of shortlisting I had done, one of these will get through.

I arranged the technical round of Interview with the technical head. He was specific that he wants at least 3 persons to choose from... I informed to him that we have called 4 persons & all of them have emailed the confirmation.

On the interview date, I was a bit jittery... I any of these guys don't turn up, my job is at stake.

After some time couple of Candidates had turned up for interview. I was hoping the others will turn up soon.

I called the reception and asked the names of the Candidates "Rajesh Reddy & Anirudh Malhotra" replied the receptionist.

I opened up inbox to check who have not turned up...

1. Rajesh Puli

2. Anirudh A Malhotra

3. Prakash Mathur

4. P Rajesh Reddy

I decided to call the candidates & called Prakash Mathur. He informed he was not able to make it. I thought, still if the other candidate turns up, I will be saved

I checked the confirmation emails from Rajesh Puli & found a single sentence which ruined by day... "Once again, I confirm attendance - Regards, Rajesh Puli Reddy"

  • - Duplication check has ruined another recruiters day. How many of our have been ruined till today.
  • - PS: As usual this is a Story... with an underlying fact!

Is it possible that multiple 'no shows' for one job may indicate a problem with the process, rather than the candidates?   Were the candidates 'sold' the position?  Did they originally sound excited about the job?  If the candidates weren't excited about the role, there isn't a very good chance anyone but the desperate are going to show up and an even lower chance they are going to take actually it when offered - somewhere between slim and none.   I don't know the circumstances of this particular recruiting assignment, but recruiting is alot more than posting jobs, gathering resumes, and scheduling appointments.   The percentage of people that show up and accept the roles offerred will go up dramatically as they are effectively 'sold' on the position.

    Dear Brian,

You have wonderfully pointed out the Basic problem in Recruiting - Selling the Job.

But in this case, it is a Duplication problem caused by over sight & improper system and tools in place.

    Thanks for your comment.

And can I use your Comment in my upcoming Blogs with your permission...

    Regards,

Mr Brain is correct; most of the recruiter fails to understand the core real job getting people on Board.   I observed that recruiter always fail in branding of the company and selling job to the Job seeker.

When I hear the call of the Recruiter, you can make out how much they have involved in branding on the job and company.

Even if you have process and tools in space.  The implementer should have proper monitoring skills for recruiters.

Every one will have the same issue, its not the first time.  For example when Satyam was down and Engineer where looking for new job.  Most of the Recruiters worked on there profile and try to get them on board, however the consultant was not in the mindset to take any offer  as they still have hopes with the present company and recruiter failed to read there mind.

Recruiter has to read the consultants mind and should know if the person is really looking for a Job change.  There job is not just give the Invitation to the consultant for Interview.

"From creating Job Description to getting consultants on Board" is Recruiters JOB.

    Dear Joshi,

"From creating Job Description to getting consultants on Board" is Recruiters JOB. - Perfectly said.

The whole image of a company to Potential employees depends on the way the entire process is handled & without high degree of involvement, understanding a Candidates mind set and needs will be impossible.

    Thanks for your comments.
