Recession Recruiting Strategies follow this blog post

It's here.  I'll say it.  We're well on our way to a recession.  And as the recession looms, our recruiting strategies need to reflect this change.  I'm all for creative recruiting strategies, and my recent venture is genius.

In my geographic region, we've recently had a major player lay off a large number of employees--over 200.  I learned of the impending layoff in the morning and was able to make contact with someone in HR to extend my sympathies and request a copy of an employee list or the possibility that "the company" could distribute some letters for those employees who were affected.

My packet to the affected employees includes a letter expressing my sympathies, information about open positions and benefits my company offers secured tightly in one of those trendy, inexpensive backpacks with my company logo.  My hope is that my company not only hires some great talent but also shows the community and its members we truly care.  Nothing bad with a little positive PR?

What recruiting strategies are you implementing with the recession in mind?

Thanks. I try to take this approach in everything I do. As the market becomes more aggressive, recruiters and companies are going to have to find a way to differentiate themselves from the competition. I've also had success with recruiting tables at local sporting events like hockey or baseball. We offer a cool stuff and approach people in a nontraditional way to get their attention. It's a great way to generate leads, make connections, and increase your presence in the community.

    Jessica,

What a great idea! I work with candidates and have been advising them to be more creative in their search strategies too. Recession is not depression and jobs are available. I love your innovation!
