The Debut ? Quest for the Best
I am pleased to introduce my first entry on ?Quest for the Best? ? an ERE Blog dedicated to the elusive search for the very best employee and the very best practices to secure said employee. Since this is my ?debut?, does this make me a ?debutante??
Paris Hilton I?m not. Just look at the picture. I received a very ordinary upbringing in Illinois by sensible, Midwestern parents who didn?t have the means or the inclination to pamper me. A presentation to polite society in the form of a debutante ball? Yeah, right!
Fast forward a few decades and I find myself on the ?Left Coast? in Seattle, Washington as a recruiter. Who in their right mind says ?I want to be a recruiter when I grow up?? Yet those of us bitten by the ?recruiting bug? heed the call and band together. I have spent my 15 years of recruiting working for third party recruiting companies - an environment that keeps you on your toes and hungry. For the past five years ? I have had the privilege of training executive recruiters in my company.
I realized that the role of a recruiter can be one of isolation. While you may be part of a recruiting team ? you are responsible for your own production. Only you can make it happen. You build your network and working relationships. In effect, you are running your own desk like your own business ? a very entrepreneurial venture. You gather all the glory (and earnings) you can earn. The flip side of that is that you are running your own desk ? and you are a lone wolf. What?s happening out there that you might not be able to see from the confines of your desk? Stuck in the placement process? Who can you turn to? To answer that, I started a blog and a secured intra-company web-site to band together my executive recruiters. The goal was to dialog, educate, call for assistance and generally connect. It bound us together and truly was the precursor to ?Quest for the Best.?
So finally, after all these years, here?s my debut at the big-time ?recruiting ball? ? ERE! Dressed in my ?white gown and gloves?, I curtsy and present what I have to offer:
 Questions and answers regarding recruiting
Discussions of pertinent recruiting subjects and trends
 Calls for opinions and information
Sharing crucial information ? helpful websites, articles, etc
 An occasional smile
Those who have read me in the past know that my style is very personal. If you choose to read, you will find out way too much about me, but it always seems to circle around and relate to recruiting. I plan to write once a week ? you can expect my blog on Thursdays. If you?re still reading this, I hope you?ll return regularly. (May I have the pleasure of this dance?) Feel free to comment.
So if your childhood vision wasn?t to ?grow up? and be a recruiter?.what keeps you in the game?
Care for a cup of punch?
