Headhunters seeking passive candidates fighting war-for-talent in hidden job market with permanent positions follow this blog post

My longest blog title EVER... but meant to illustrate some absurdities in the current job market.

Here are a few terms and practices that I wish disappear from the employment world:

headhunter... passive candidate... war for talent... hidden job market... permanent position... multi-generational workforce

Perhaps our industry should redefine "active" and "passive" candidates in terms that don't refer to quality, fit, or talent.

The terms should define the candidate's situation as it relates to a recruiting goal.

Active candidates =  know about your open position.

Passive candidates =  don't know about your open position.

The assessment of fit and talent comes later in the process.

Search firms working with large clients typically focus on engaging passive candidates because our clients are already finding active candidates through other means.

I admit that some of the comments on these words are pretty funny. However, they are obviously used for a certain reason and appropriate in certain situations. Maybe the HR world needs to re-term some of these words.

Hilarious.  Thanks for skewering several of the more idiotic headline grabbers of the decade.  Sort and very sweet.  Kudos to you.  I had a good laugh.
