Does Beauty Matter? follow this blog post

I am writing a book titled 'Does Beauty Matter' to explore and identify the key components on what makes people rise to the very top of their professions:

Is it Beauty, Karma, Charisma, hard work, good timing, their environment, or just good ole dad or mom beating you to a pulp (Michael Jackson!) in a frustrated attempt to make you do what they couldn't?

In my own practice, I combine my knowledge of Beauty (25 years) with Recruiting to counsel applicants on Hair, Make-up, Dress, Colors, Lunch Etiquette and even teach neurolinguistics while preparing them for a job interview.

Any thoughts I could use in my book?

Jo - you might be interested in a piece of recent (April 2009) peer-published research from 4 Australian academics about 'lookism' in Australian retail industry recruitment practices - go to http://jir.sagepub.com/cgi/reprint/51/1/131

You have to pay for it but given you are writing a book on the topic it's probably money well spent.

Here's a thought -- cultivate an image consistent with who you want to be and who you want to be a part of your network.   Make sure you don't miss any opportunities to create a positive image in everyone's minds.  If someone were to bump into you at the grocery store, would they mistake you for someone who is stocking the shelves or managing the store, or for someone who could own the store or sit on its Board of Directors?  When you're on an airplane, the person sitting next to you could be a potential employer.  Would he want you representing his company in a baggy sweat suit and sneakers or shorts and flip flops?

yes, but not as much as having daddy on the board of directors
