Social Media and Recruiters, So Many Options, So Little Time follow this blog post

I often hear from other recruiters that are interested in getting more serious about building their brand on the internet and effectively utilizing social networks.  The main question I get from most recruiters is how do you implement a social networking campaign effectively without removing our focus from the fundamentals of recruiting that make us successful.  The problem is very real, there are so many places we need to be in order to reach our candidates that it could turn in to a full time job just maintaining our presence on social networks.  Below I will outline a program, that once implemented, will allow you to constantly share new content, and effectively manage all of your social networks in less than 1 hour per day.  There are a number of ways to accomplish the same thing that I outline below, this is just what has worked best for me.
1.  Start a blog with blogger or wordpress.  The blogs are free and are a great place to share your thoughts regarding the industries in which you recruit, as well as post any jobs that you are trying to fill.  You can search for "free blogger themes" or "free wordpress themes" and choose one with a very professional look.
2.  Establish profiles on Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Friendfeed and any other social networking sites that will allow you to network with your target clients and candidates.  After setting up your profiles you will be able to enter the RSS feed of your new blog in your social networking profiles.  This will feed your blog content to all of the networks whenever you post a new blog entry.   I post all of my jobs on my Blog (http://www.jeremyrobertstx.com/) so they are all viewable on all of the social networks as well.
3.  Set up a profile on http://www.ping.fm/.  Ping.fm will allow you to update your status for all of your social networks simultaneously. After following these steps you will be able to manage all of the content that you post on your social networks from 2 locations.  Both Ping.fm and Blogger/Wordpress can be updated from your cell so you never have to go a day without providing status updates or new blog entries for your connections.
I look forward to hearing any comments or thoughts you might have!

I completely agree with Peter and Jeremy. I spend no more than 15-20 minutes updating my social media sites. I may spend more time on the networking part but the updating can easily be done before I start working in the morning or at the end of my day. A little bit of effort a day can go a long way.

    Jeremy,

I think that this addresses what they can do, but I think many people will still wonder how to do it with the little time they have. That answer is still relatively simple as well. It really only takes about 20-30 minutes a day to manage your social media and recruiting brand. 10-15 minutes in the morning and 10-15 minutes a day. Sure, are there people who spend hours each day managing and building their brandm yes but likely most of those are on the speakers' circuit or are professional bloggers.

The average recruiter can do a lot for their recruiter "street cred" and their brand by spending 30 minutes a day. We take that time to chat about football, reality TV and the like, so why not on social media?
