The Obnoxious Job Seeker follow this blog post

You know him. You met him once and wish you hadn't. He calls your work phone, then cell phone and work phone again to leave you a message. He knows you are screening his calls, but that doesn't stop the obnoxious job seeker.

He is friends with someone in management and thinks you are his personal Recruiter, his personal resume writer, his personal career coach. He'll keep calling and calling, and calling until you break down. He is the obnoxious job seeker. Know him. Fear him.

    Amen...

I don't think a day goes by that I don't see some "expert" advising job seekers to "make sure to call to follow-up after you submit your resume."

    WHY???

And, of course it always seems to be the most obnoxious and unqualified people to behave this way. I don't recall ever getting called by a candidate "following-up" who was exactly what I was looking for... In fact most of the time, they were clueless in every possible way.

It always has been and probably always will be a "don't call us, we'll call you" kind of arrangment. Yes, it is lousy for the candidates to not get a rapid response, but when all of these annoying types clog up the process, it just slows things down for everyone.

You are right, we all know them.   If by some miracle (ie. nepotism) he was actually hired, his tenure on the job would probably better be counted in hours than years.   They never last.   The damage they leave in their wake, including alienated coworkers / customers / and managers negates any possibile benefit of hiring him ten fold.  Is he going to be any less obnoxious once he starts?
