A ?younger? perspective on recruiting.

So many internet postings - does anyone work anymore? follow this blog post

So many blogs, discussion groups, linkedin group, ere forums - are people actually working?

I am shocked everytime I click on LinkedIn Answers and see the top "experts" of the week.. well over 100 answers each week.

I am surprised at how much time people spend on responses on ERE groups.  I think some people might be spending hours writing emails.  (if you are in my group - Ethics in Recruiting - please.. continue to spend as much time as you like!)

I have to blink twice when I see people with 20+ linkedin groups on their profile

I'm not sure on exact numbers - but I would guess that the number of ERE blogs have probably doubled since I started this one.

Here is my question - are recruiters actually working anymore?  :)  Okay - that is a bit of a stretch but it seems like as a group we are getting much more talkative online.. maybe even too much.  I find it hard to keep up the writing that I like to do and I can hardly even imagine the time that it takes some to post like they do and keep paying their bills.

Am I the only one that has noticed this?

Well - since we have time to spare - let's listen to some good music.  I absolutely love this guy and follow his youtube videos whenever possible.

... now that is a good question. One that I do not have an answer to.

I can say one thing for certain:

blogging / ERE forums have increased my visibility to others within the industry.

Has the increased visibility improved candidate flow? Yes - there have been quite a few candidates that have emailed me 100% because of the blog or forum posts (or LinkedIn Answers). No - while there have been quite a few candidates most of them are people that I was not able to help directly (their skill sets have fallen out of the areas that I recruit for). I did help them get in touch with other recruiters that may be able to help them - I did get to provide some service to them in the end.

Blogging has become part of the way we actually do business: connecting to clients, candidates and partners. I believe that the more important question is: what does it really deliver? and how can we measure?

.. to not hit the point in which you have more LinkedIn Groups than can be shown at one time. Once I hit "more" on my profile summary - then I know I have gone too far!

Beam me up Scotty, there are so few intelligent posts down here...

The problem is OCLBD (Obsessive-Compulsive-LinkedIn-Blogging Disorder) which can cause RDD (Recruiting Deficit Disorder).

OCLBD is diagnosed by counting the number of ERE Groups one subscribes to plus the number of Yahoo Groups one subscribes to plus the number of LinkedIn Questions and Answers asked per day all divided by the sum of the number of emails received from JobMachine and Dave Mendoza. (jk, SS & DM - you know I love you)

The higher the ratio the more serious the case of OCLBD; RDD is an entirely more complicated disease...

Most blogs have limited new content, and the comment to those blogs are equally uninteresting. If there is a way to create a directory of high quality blogs that would be really great.

    Hi Scott,

Most of my answers to blogs are done during off hours unless I have nothing to do at the moment during the day..like lunch time. I think that everyone is searching for the answers to do something better..but remember it's hard to reinvent the wheel.
