  • Plaxo gets LinkedIn

I just set up my Plaxo account to sync with my LinkedIn account.

    image

Some of the advantages to this new sync feature that I see are as follows:

    1. I now get a notification every time one of my LinkedIn contacts changes his job or contact information on LinkedIn.
    2. I can now see who is logged onto their IM account if they have a Yahoo email address or IM account.
    3. All my LinkedIn contacts are now sync'd with into my Outlook contacts through Plaxo.
    4. I can now send unlimited "eCards" and other mailing campaigns out to all my LinkedIn contacts ...

  • Welcome to 2007 (1999 - Round 2)

When I talk to recruiters and staffing industry professionals these days I hear a lot of excitement in their voices about the coming year. I think it?s pretty obvious why they would be excited. After all, the market is picking up again and it?s beginning to look like we may have another 1999 on our hands soon.

    Won't that be great???

    • Companies start to hire more recruiters.
    • The best candidates start to get calls from dozens of other recruiters.
    • Top candidates start to pull their resume off the web and job boards to avoid the flood of ...

  • 2 recruiters walk into a bar

Two recruiters, Bob and Susan, walk into a bar and sit down for a drink after work on Monday. One table over are some engineers who are venting about their manager at company XYZ. It's clear that are not happy with their manager.

The first recruiter, Bob, finishes his drink and leaves the bar. The next morning Bob checks out the engineers on LinkedIn, Google and ZoomInfo. Once Bob finds an email address for one of the engineers he sends that engineer a request to connect on LinkedIn and then forward some job descriptions to the candidates using Jobster ...

  • Recruiting Explorationist

I recently had a friend in the business ask me how it is that every time we talk recruiting; I introduce a new product or solution that's just hit, or is just about to hit, the market. His point was this:

"Rather than testing out every new product to hit the market, why not wait 6 months to see if it takes off and then use the product once it's tested and proven?"

My friend (let?s call him Mike) makes a good point, but I'll counter with the following thought:

As an early adopter of new ...

  • Recruit'n follow-up

    image

I have received several emails from recruiters who have tried Recruit'n and most were not impressed with the results. To add insult to injury, it appears that the site was hacked recently causing the Recruit'n team to reload the site.

Personally, I was disappointed to find that the resumes I received had been simply ripped of job boards like Monster and Hotjobs. Both boards I have access to myself. Since souces of resumes get paid regardless of the quality of the resume, there isn't any incentive ...

  • Market10

    image

    Then:

Late in the summer of 2005 I wrote a few blog entries on a new job board called Market 10 (a.k.a. mkt10). At the time I was fairly critical of the site and their strategy to match candidates to jobs without letting employers search resumes or candidates search job postings. Instead, Market10 would match candidates to jobs based on the skills a candidate claimed on their profile and the skills listed on the job posting. When a strong match exists the candidate and employer a notified and given the opportunity to show mutual interest. If both are ...

  • Recruitn.com

    image

There is a new recruiting site called recruitn.com that has just launched and could have an interesting way for recruiters to receive leads from sourcers looking to make a few extra bucks. I've just started using the site today and will have to report back once I see if I get a sense of how much value really exists.

For now, all I can tell you is that I've posted a job description that any approved sourcers can submit resume to. If I choose to accept the candidates that they submit, I'll pay them $5 (or ...

  • LinkedIn to Plaxo-fy it's toolbar - PART II

I've had the new beta version of the LinkedIn toolbar 2.0 for about a week now and I have to say the new features are quite good. The 2 big additions to the new toolbar are the LinkedIn Dashboard and the InfoBoxbox.

    TheInfoBoxBox:
The new Info Box provides a quick snapshot of data based on the LinkedIn profile of the individuals who email you. You'll note in the clip below that in addition to information about the individual you also have the ability to invite that person into your LinkedIn network or "keep-in-touch" with them.

  • LinkedIn to Plaxo-fy it's toolbar

It's difficult to tell by looking at the screenshots that LinkedIn has posted to there web site, but it appears that LinkedIn in getting ready to release a new Outlook toolbar that would offer users functionality similar the Plaxo.

    image

If I'm correct, one of the results of the new toolbar would be the ability for users to see a quick snapshot of anyone that sends an email into their in box. Think about how important it will be to craft the perfect LinkedIn summary and profile once users find out that every email they send out could display ...

  • DC Recruiters Happy Hour

I think its high time we all get together again for some drinks and some lively discussion about the state of the market here in DC. 2006 is looking like its going to be a break out year for hiring in DC and I'd love to hear from everyone on what plans they have to address the increase in activity.

I suggest we meet at Gau-Rapo in Arlington, VA again, but I'm open to other suggestions...

  • Mapping all recruiters...

    Hello DC Recruiters,

I wanted to see if we couldn't get all the DC Area Recruiters to post on the map I created. Just go to: http://www.frappr.com/dcrecruiters
If you include a picture of yourself it will be desplayed on the map and on my DCRecruiters.com web site.

    image

If your not local to the DC Area you can add yourself to the national map I create at: http://www.frappr.com/recruitersnamerica

I thought it would be nice to see where everyone is.
  • Recruiting - Finding Balance

    Recruiting - A Balancing Act

    image

As recruiters, we're constantly trying to balance the needs of our employer clients with that of our candidate clients. Often the needs of each individual employer and client can be unique. However, most recruiters learn to create categories that cover a majority these needs and discuss each category whenever they discuss an opportunity with either client. Based on answers to opening questions in each category, a recruiter can dig deeper as needed.

    Some Categories Covered with Employers:
    • Project scope
    • Job requirements
    • The selling points of the job
    • Corporate culture / Team dynamics
    • Bill rate / Budget
    • Geography ...

  • Referal based recruiting (Jobthread follow-up)

Referral based recruiting products are showing up all over the place.

               LinkedIn
                                          H3
                                                             YorZ
                                                                      Jobthread
                                                                                      Doostang

etc... (In that order I'd say)

The question is, what makes any of these solutions any better then all the other recruiting solutions available to recruiters today?

    Novelty:
For many people the simple fact that these solutions are new will be enough to make them try adding them to there recruiting process. It's no secret that recruiters everywhere are frustrated with the diminishing value of traditional resume board and job postings. While the still provide a measurable ROI for recruiters, their ...

  • Here they come - Jobthread

Another Jobsteresk product has hit the market. This one is called Jobthread and like YorZ is offering Jobster like functionality for free. Jobster still leads the pack in the features it delivers to recruiter everywhere. However, with new sites showing up all the time it will be tough to keep companies paying for Jobster when 80% or more of the features they offer can be found elseware for free.

I'm planning to take Jobthread out for a spin later today and see what she can do. Anyone interested in helping me test the site by receiving an email ...

  • Project World

Let me begin by apologizing for the late posting of my World Congress for Business Analysts review. That said, my first trip to a Project World event was very positive overall.

    Tuesday:
When I arrived in Orlando on Tuesday night (11/15) I proceeded directly to the Disney "Magic Express Bus" without collecting my checked bags as I had been instructed to do. I was told that the nice folks at Disney would collect my checked bags for me and deliver them directly to my room. It never occurred to me that they would deliver my bags to my room ...

  • I'm going to Disney World

I'm off to Disney world for the World Congress for Business Analysts show (ProjectWorld). This should be a great event. I'll be sure and post some updates in the next day or so.
