If you haven't logged into LinkedIn lately you will be surprised when you do because they have now activated their new interface which had been in beta testing.
 
I find it easier to navigate LinkedIn now, with less clicks to get to what I want. In fact, you can now add a people search module right to your LinkedIn Home Page that shows you any new profiles matching your criteria! This is effectively a "pervasive" search meaning that it acts as an agent and will show you any new results matching your criteria. You can search by Company and Title.  
 
How?
 
When you log in, on the right hand side right below the advertisement you should see the default modules "ProfileViews" along with a few others like "People" and  "Answers." Below that there's  button to "Add a module" with a plus sign to the left of it. Hover over that button with your mouse and click on "People Search" and this will now display a search by Company and Title right on your home page. Enter the criteria then click the save button and this new search will always appear on your home page. You can add a few of these to match your most critical research projects.
 
I'm still holding out for the ability to search through my incoming requests though...

    there must be some chinks in the armor, because they had to take the whole site offline for almost 3 hours this morning (approx. 9:30am-noon US Eastern Time). But I see it's up again, so hopefully it'll be stable.

    .. I like that I can customize the main screen - I'm sure as time goes by there will be more features that I can use. Personally - I'm very annoyed with the news module... it only gives me IT news from India.

    So far I like it. However, as you know, promiscuous linkers have had problems seeing their network statistics and it's actually worse in one way and better in another with the new version.

    You can now see your total connections on the home page left hand side which is nice. So you know your total but can't see your level 1 and level 2 connections there. Clicking on Contacts then Network Statistics probably provides more detail for less promiscuous linkers but it returns no information for me. This is the same behavior as the old interface which did return data about 1 time in 10+ attempts although I haven't yet been successful getting the new interface to do anything but provide no data.

    Clicking on Contacts then Connections will show your level 1 connections but it's a pain to do that. I believe that LI should abandon the 500+ idea for level 1 connections and just display the real number. Of course this ties in with their basic philosophy which I believe is flawed. What LI needs is an easy way to see your network stats that actually works.

    I like the layout although it takes a little orientation to get used to.

    It is much quicker for me to navigate. Speed = :)

    Adding a Module to create a People Search -

    It's simple, fast and it works.

    What more could you ask for ?
