Are you authentic to your employees? To your new hires? I've been reading a lot of Seth Godwin recently and am impressed at how dead on he is. We already apply many of his techniques to our business but one thing in particular stands out this morning in my mind... the importance of telling an authentic story, to live breath and believe that story.
Now take the same idea an apply it INTERNALLY, yes not in your marketing but in your HR, in your internal recruiting. First it requires being authentic, then it requires sharing your story with those who are most likely to be drawn to it. But always it's the authentic-ness that is most important and the foundation to everything else. Are you for Real?
Recently i had one of my leaders confront me. They presented me with a situation, one of dissention and deception. They quoted our C.O.R.E values and used them to help clarify a path to resolution. I was so proud, its critical times when those who are authentic show their true light and those who are not are exposed.
At a certain point a company develops it own personality independent of those who are there. That personality is checked and rechecked and continuously refined by the company leaders. What is your company?s personality? It is authentic? Do your leaders believe? Is it laid out for all new recruits to see?
